Discover how 16-year-old Eva lives fully and fearlessly with functional seizures. Read her inspiring story, and the perspective of her parents, on finding safety, independence, and strength with Ribcap.
Eva: "Functional seizures leaves me vulnerable to injury - especially head injury. Learning to live with my condition has meant learning to be safe while still being an independent 16-year-old. It means strengthening my body and mind, and taking precautions. I love running, skating, Pilates, and ballet. I help out with the high school theater club. I'm a born entrepreneur and bake cakes for events. I do it all in my Ribcap. It gives me some safety without calling attention to my disability - because teenagers just want to be teenagers!"
Mom and Dad: "Most people haven’t heard of functional neurological disorder (FND). There are a lot of conditions and disabilities you never heard of until they affect you or someone you love. Eva started experiencing functional seizures at 14 years old. They came on suddenly, and didn’t happen frequently. But when they did happen, they were serious and unpredictable. After a concussion at school, we realized we had to do something to keep her safe. That’s how we found Ribcap. As a parent, letting kids be independent can be hard, especially with a disability. Eva’s Ribcap gives us some security, knowing that her head will be protected in a fall."
